Jump back to 1960s Baltimore, where Tracy Turnblad has big hair, an even bigger heart, and a huge dream to be a dancer on the Corny Collins Show. Tracy has never been part of the “in” crowd – until she wins the coveted spot and finds herself a teen idol overnight. 4GOOD FAMILY DAY: Spark the spirit of giving back and get together for the greater good at Family Day. Create cards to send to service men and women with Operation Gratitude; decorate lunch bags and placemats for Meals on Wheels recipients; plant a smile by decorating flower pots and potting flowers for local seniors; learn how to conserve and protect their neighborhood with TreePeople and Heal the Bay; and make a Change 4 Change bank to help favorite causes. The more activities completed at the 4GOOD Family Day, the bigger the reward. Each child will have the opportunity to earn a free face painting or a free 5-minute music lesson with live rock instruments from music lesson studio Join the Band. Admission is free. Bring canned goods and toiletries to donate to SOVA, as well as gently-used stuffed animals, shoes and blankets. WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH VIA ART: NoHo Gallery LA in North Hollywood is celebrating its 5th annual art show honoring women artists and images of women with a free public reception. The featured painter is Melissa Leslie and the featured photographer is Margaret Malandruccolo. The Group Artists include Debra Dobkin, Jenna Harju, Jamie Klenk, Bonnie Lambert, Gilli Moon, Jessica Ostrander, Rachel Weissberger, Regina Wyatt, Nami Yang and more. Australian singer/songwriter Gilli Moon will perform original songs, featuring spoken word artist J. Walker. WOMAN! will also feature more than a dozen historic images relating to women’s issues such as our founding religious patriarchs burning women at the stake juxtaposed by the Congressional Committee of all religious male patriarchs testifying about invading women’s reproductive rights.
