The award-winning CHAMPS presents "Hairspray"

HAIRSPRAY – CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts Performing Arts Academy is bringing  the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical to life once more.  Jump back to 1960s Baltimore, where Tracy Turnblad has big hair, an even bigger heart, and a huge dream to be a dancer on the Corny Collins Show. Tracy has never been part of the “in” crowd – until she wins the coveted spot and finds herself a teen idol overnight. Tracy becomes a trend setter, using her popularity to help change the show’s segregation policy. WHEN: Thursday, March 22 at 7:30 pm. 4GOOD FAMILY DAY:  Spark the spirit of giving back and get together for the greater good at  Family Day. Create cards to send to service men and women with Operation Gratitude; decorate lunch bags and placemats for Meals on Wheels recipients; plant a smile by decorating flower pots and potting flowers for local seniors; learn how to conserve and protect their neighborhood with TreePeople and Heal the Bay; and  make a Change 4 Change bank to help favorite causes. The more activities completed at the 4GOOD Family Day, the bigger the reward. Each child will have the opportunity to earn a free face painting or a free 5-minute music lesson with live rock instruments from music lesson studio Join the Band. Admission is free.  Bring canned goods and toiletries to donate to SOVA, as well as gently-used stuffed animals, shoes and blankets.  Food will be available from sponsors:  Savore Catering and Taqueria Vista Hermosa. 4GOOD volunteers will also be selling lemonade for Alex’s Lemonade Stand to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Entertainment to be provided by Carpenter Community Charter and Millikan Middle School. WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH VIA ART:  NoHo Gallery LA  in North Hollywood is celebrating its  5th annual art show honoring women artists and images of women with a free public reception. The featured painter is Melissa Leslie and the featured photographer is Margaret Malandruccolo. The Group Artists include Debra Dobkin, Jenna Harju, Jamie Klenk, Bonnie Lambert, Gilli Moon, Jessica Ostrander, Rachel Weissberger, Regina Wyatt, Nami Yang and more. Australian singer/songwriter Gilli Moon will perform original songs, featuring spoken word artist J. Walker.   WOMAN! will also feature more than a dozen historic images relating to women’s issues such as our founding religious patriarchs burning women at the stake juxtaposed by the Congressional Committee of all religious male patriarchs testifying about invading women’s reproductive rights. When: Saturday, March 24 from 7 p.m. -11 p.m. Where: NoHo Gallery LA, 5126 Lankershim Blvd.  North Hollywood.

TOMATOMANIA!: It’s happening this weekend  at Tapia Brothers Farm Stand in Encino.  Tomatomania! is an heirloom tomato seedling sale featuring almost 300 tomato varieties. Wear your Tomatomania! CUPCAKE DECORATING PARTYChildren ages 3-8  can their own cupcake masterpieces  with fun decorations and yummy treats. Cost is $25 per child. RSVP at 818-981-7446. SAN FERNANDO VALLEY PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL – 1ST ANNUAL “Reaching for the Stars’ BENEFIT CONCERT:  Come see  Rick Springfield,  Billy Ray Cyrus and Phil Driscoll for this benefit concert.  General admission: $60; Reserved: $100;VIP Tickets, which include: Premier Seating, Meet & Greet with the Artists, and Dinner. Calabasas Farmers Market: Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. is in Old Town, Calabasas on Calabasas Road., across the street from the Sagebrush Cantina.

Encino Farmers’ Market (ONEGeneration):  Sundays,  8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 17400 Victory Blvd. (between White Oak and Balboa).

NoHo Arts District Farmers MarketSaturdays, 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Bakman Avenue, between Magnolia Boulevard to the South and Weddington Street to the north.

Studio City Farmers’ Market: Sundays, 8 a.m – 1 p.m. – 12001 Ventura Pl, Studio City. (between Laurel Cyn and Radford. just north of Ventura).
